Computing

High-quality computing education equips pupils with the skills to develop logical thinking and creativity in order to support their learning in an ever-changing digital environment.

The use of ICT in society expands at an ever-increasing pace and it is an essential part of everyday life for the staff and pupils alike at Blundell’s Prep. We offer a curriculum that matches the needs of society today, with pupils having access to a wide range of facilities, including desktop PCs, laptops and iPads. From Year 3 onwards, discrete Computing lessons are taught each week by a subject specialist teacher – but use of technology is modelled by all teachers on a daily basis, and its use by children is encouraged across all year groups and in all curriculum areas.

Aims of the Computing Department

As well as trying to stimulate the use of information technology in all subjects taught at Blundell’s Preparatory School, in line with the national curriculum it is also our aim to ensure that all pupils:

  • can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation
  • can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems

  • can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems

  • are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
